How to find car rental deals

Frugal Men and Frugal Women in this article I am going to show you exactly how to find car rental deals.

Over the last several years I have refined my system for getting the best car rental deals on the planet.

Best Car Rental Deals

The first thing you want to do is go to CarRentalSavers.com. Using the Smart Book Box on the right of your screen enter your rental airport or city and your dates of rental. Click search. A grid will come up showing the different rental car companies and prices for the different car classes.

Choose the best price for the class of car that you want and you will be taken to the next screen where you can confirm your rental. If you have a specific car rental company you like than you can also choose them here.

CarRentalSavers will automatically include any promotional offers or coupons and they will be deducted from your price. You will generally get a great price from this site.

Sometimes I will then check the price directly with the car rental company by going to their site to see if they have a lower price.

Okay everything well and good up to this point but now I’m going to tell you a secret.

Do You Want To Know When Your Rental Price Drops?

Once you have booked your rental on CarRentalSavers or any other site you want to go to AutoSlash.com. Click on “Track a Rental you have booked elsewhere” and input your rental information. If at any time the price for your car rental drops they will notify you and you can immediately book at the lower price and then cancel your prior reservation.

In addition if another rental company has a better price at any time they will also notify you.

My Car Rental Deals

In September of 2014 I booked an intermediate car for five days for $132.54 using CarRentalSavers. I immediately put my reservation information into AutoSlash.

Later that day I got an e-mail informing me that AutoSlash located a better price for my rental. The new price was $106.15. I immediately booked the reservation and canceled my original one.

On the 22nd of March 2015 I reserved an intermediate car for one week starting April 19th for $133.03 using CarRentalSavers.

A few hours after putting my reservation information in AutoSlash I received an e-mail informing me that they had found me a better price for the exact same class of car with the exact same rental company with a price drop to $105.99.

Both of these rentals were during the off-season in Florida which is why prices were so low but my system will work at any time of the year.

About a year ago I booked a car three months in advance for a trip that I was going to take.

I put the information into AutoSlash and did not hear anything for three months.

The night before my flight I got an e-mail from AutoSlash with great news the price had dropped dramatically. This was a month-long rental and I saved hundreds of dollars.

Keeping It Simple

That’s how simple it is. No need to search 15 different sites and check your reservation every day to see if the price has gone down. In less than 10 minutes you can set up this system and be sure you are getting the best car rental deals.

Some Other Frugal Tips For Car Rentals

Here are a few other tips that will make your life easier when renting a car.

Join Loyalty Programs

Be sure you join the car companies loyalty program. Go directly to the rental car companies website to do this.

When you are a member you get to go in the fast line for your rental.

Also in some airports like Miami you go directly to where the cars are and they have your rental ready. No need to go to the rental office in the airport.

The loyalty programs also come with points and miles, special deals and you certainly get treated better.

I Already Have Insurance

Do not be talked into paying the exorbitant fee for rental car insurance unless you have no other option. If you have normal car insurance it almost surely covers you for liability for your rental car. Check with your insurance agent or insurance company to be sure.

Certain credit cards will give you primary collision coverage including the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and the United Mileage Plus Explorer Card. Be sure to use the card to rent the vehicle. So if your personal car insurance covers you for liability and you use a credit card that covers you for collision why waste $25.00 a day paying for insurance you don’t need.

I Will Fill The Tank

Do not take the rental car companies offer to pay for a full tank of gas upon rental. In order for it to work you would need to bring the car back with no gas. Do you want to take the chance of running out of gas a mile from the airport?

Instead bring the car back with the tank full.
